Persil Limited Edition Spring Blossom Washing Up Liquid Review

$

I'm an absolute sucker for a seasonal limited edition product, a new scent or flavour certainly makes housework a little less dull.

With Spring just around the corner Persil are launching a limited edition washing up liquid in a 'Spring Blossom' scent, it features hints of freesia, white rose, vanilla and dry fruit, it's soapy bubbles smell lovely and really get you in the mood for brighter days and a good Spring clean.

It's floral pink in colour which looks pretty and helps liven up the kitchen windowsill, it's formula is Good Housekeeping approved too.

Persil washing up liquid is great for tackling stubborn grease and stuck on food, it left my dishes sparkling clean and the bubbles remained intact while I scrubbed away at the dishes, it also left no residue or scent on the dishes afterwards which is really important to me when deciding which product to buy.

The new Spring Blossom scent will be available at Tesco supermarkets in March and retails at £1 for 500ml which I think is a bargain for such a good quality product, other scents available are Pink Blush, Orange Crush, Lemon Burst and Apple Fizz.

Webster's Week In Wins 15th-21st February 2015

No big wins to report this week but I did have a couple of small wins this week so at least February isn't a completely dry month.

I won some Cussons Mum & Me goodies on Twitter, they haven't arrived yet but I will post a picture when they do.

I've also won a pair of tickets to the Baby & Toddler show in Manchester, I've been going for a few years now, they have some really good bargains, usually a goodie bag and there is always a competition or two to enter, I once won a £200 Mint Velvet voucher just from popping my name in a box at the event.

A nice little freebie from Kiddylicious arrived this week for Jacob, he really enjoyed having them as a little snack.

I'm going to busy myself this week with getting back into completing surveys and entering end of month competitions, I will be back next week to share the results with you.

This Week At The Webster's - Grumpiness, Crawling Baby Issues & Pancakes

$

I could seriously fill this whole blog post up with a huge rant about how much of  rubbish week it's been but I won't, mainly because most of it would be tiredness talking.

I am the worlds most grumpiest person after a few nights of broken sleep, and between Jake teething and me having some issues a good nights sleep has been scarce, the week caught up with me and I ended up asleep by 7.15pm on Saturday evening which has helped a little.

Jake's crawling has accelerated this week, he is like speedy Gonzales when he catches sight of something he's not meant to touch, I'm trying every tip in the book but he just laughs at me and makes a beeline for the forbidden object again, I'm totally frazzled trying to stay one step ahead of him, Chris and I held an emergency meeting this morning to discuss implementing strategies to outsmart him, we have decided on a safety gate for the living room door and removal of any expensive technology, we are also looking at cable tidies.

The funny thing is you spend ages willing your little ones to crawl then spend even more time longing for the days when you could leave them in one place and be sure they wouldn't have moved when you return, it certainly keeps us on our toes and there is never a dull moment I suppose.

On Tuesday we celebrated Pancake day, as shocking as it is I only learnt how to make pancakes last year at the age of 36 and I actually quite enjoy it, Chris and Daisy like syrup on theirs but I like traditional lemon and sugar on mine.

Daisy is back at pre-school tomorrow, she has had two weeks off with her being poorly and half term and she is chomping at the bit to get back and see her little friends, I don't know about you but I seem to work a lot better when we have a regular routine in place so I'm looking forward to next week as well.

We haven't had a chance to get outside much this week and I really want to change this, the weeks seem to be flying past and I sometimes wonder where the days have gone.

I'm hoping next week will bring a few better nights sleep for all of us.

Money Mondays - Buying For Baby On A Budget

$

This week I thought I would share some baby budgeting tips we used when having our children, we all know how expensive it can be buying all the things you need for a newborn but it doesn't stop there does it, babies grow so fast and need new clothes roughly every 3 months so finding little ways to save really does make all the difference.

  • Join sites like Freecycle, Freegle and Gumtree, you can pick up items like cots, baths, play mats and baby clothes for free, the condition of the items is usually really good as they are used for such a short space of time, I got a Pink Lining changing bag from Freecycle, it was as good as new once I washed it and would normally retail at £40 upwards.

  • Facebook selling pages for your local area are great for picking up the essential items at bargain prices, lots are gently used and sometimes not used at all. People usually sell bundles of baby clothes for a fraction of what they would cost you new, I got some fantastic bundles for Jake most included brands such as Next, Zara Baby and Baby Gap.

  • I would always recommend buying a brand new mattress for cots and Moses baskets, I buy mine from Kiddicare online, they offer a good range of prices to suit all budgets.

  • Asking relatives and friends to keep their feelers out for you for you is a good idea, they might know someone giving baby items away or even selling them at bargain prices.

  • If you are buying new always shop around, do your research as some stores may offer a price match, keep your eyes peeled for special baby events or visit the baby shows in your local area to find some cut price bargains.

  • Join some baby clubs online, many offer free gifts or coupons for useful baby items as well as great ideas and advice, here are my favourites
         Emma's Diary

         Bounty

         Asda Baby Club

        Tesco Baby Club

        Aptamil Baby Club

        Cow & Gate Baby Club

  • Buy Nappies and Wipes in bulk packs, we always buy the economy big box packs, they last us the whole month and cost less in the long run.

  • Most supermarkets now offer a range of baby toiletries and nappies that rival the big brands, you could try downshifting to see what suits you and your baby.

Have you shopped around and saved money on baby essentials ? if you have any tips you would like to share please leave me a comment below.

This Week At The Webster's - You Never Know What A Week Will Bring

This last week truly has been a week from hell, I thought I would write a quick post rather than not blog at all.

I started last week feeling rather unwell, I struggled along through Monday but by Tuesday afternoon I was in agony and unable to carry on as normal I went to an out of hours service and was treated for one thing which turned out to not be the actual thing that was wrong, I know I'm being rather vague about what was wrong, all I will say is that I had an extremely bad and painful abscess in a very delicate area, I have never ever felt pain like it before in my life even during childbirth !

Finally after a whole week spent in excruciating pain I was admitted to a ward on Friday and finally had an operation on Saturday.

I don't have much else to tell you about last week as you can imagine it's mainly been spent in a haze of pain.

The worst part of it all for me was being apart from Chris and the little ones, not being able to have my big kids visit as normal, feeling totally useless and helpless and realising how ill prepared we really are for an emergency.

The positive things that have come out of this situation is that it's made me stop and realise how run down I was, it's made it more important than ever for me to get myself well and start looking after myself, I've truly realised what is important and what is not.

We have a few tough weeks ahead but I'm determined that if we ever find ourselves in such an unexpected situation again we will be much better prepared, we don't have a massive support system of people who can help us out but those who did I am truly grateful for.

I'm so happy to be home and I'm going to enjoy every moment spent with my family.

I can only hope that this terrible run of bad health that seems to have plagued us since December is finally at an end.

Review: Topsy & Tim Dressing Up DVD - Abbey Kids Home Media

$

I remember reading the Topsy & Tim books when I was a little girl, I loved reading about the adventures they had in each book and thinking how exciting it would be to have a twin.

In 2013 a live action version of the Topsy & Tim stories was made for the Cbeebies channel.

Daisy has always preferred live action shows to animation, she loves watching other children and the adventures they get up to really capture her imagination, she really relates to these type of shows.

We were more than excited to review the new Topsy & Tim Dressing Up DVD from Abbey Home Media, the DVD contains 8 fun episodes following the everyday adventures of the twins.

I love the way the story is told through the eyes of a child, everything is from their perspective and at the end of each episode Topsy & Tim ask you to play a memory game with them about all the things that have happened in that episode which opens a dialogue between you and your child.

Daisy and I have watched the DVD several times since we got it, each episode runs for 11 minutes which is the perfect amount of time to hold her attention, her favourite episode is 'Old Toys' , I also think Topsy & Tim have the best intro song of all the kids TV shows, we have been singing it to each other all weekend !

As a bonus the DVD also comes with a reward chart and stickers.

Topsy and Tim-Dressing Up is available to buy now at Amazon.co.uk for £6.99.

Jacob Gets A Haircut

Today Jacob had his first haircut, all his lovely crazy curls have been lopped off , today was a sad day for Mummy Webster but a happy day for Jacob who had started to resemble an old English sheepdog.

If you are a long time reader of my blog you will have seen many pictures of Jacob and his crazy hair, I've been quite reluctant to have it chopped until this week when I realised just how much it had grown and constantly needed moving to one side, I'm not ashamed to say (sorry Jake if you read this when you are older) that I have even resorted to popping a bobble in it.

Here are the many styles of Jacobs unruly hair.

Daddy Webster had to take Jacob to the hairdressers as I am still on total rest after my recent operation, he left the house looking all cherub like with his curly dark curls and came back looking like a proper grown up boy.

I must admit it looks a lot better and of course it's good for Jacob not to have all those stray hairs poking in his eyes, I do hope those curls will grow back slightly though.

Did you feel emotional getting your babies hair cut for the first time ?

Celebrating #WorldBookDay 2015

Today saw Daisy celebrating world book day for the first time, when my two older children were at primary school there wasn't a world book day or if there was it wasn't widely celebrated so this was my first experience too.

I bought Daisy's costume online from Asda, they had a fantastic range. I'm a big fan of the classic children's fairy tales so decided on Little Red Riding Hood I think the fact it came with a little basket and finger puppets of Grandma and the big bad wolf swung it for me.

Daisy loved going off to school in her new costume this morning and had lots of fun when she was there, the class were concentrating on the Eric Carle classic 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

I've been slowly building up Daisy and Jacob's book collection since they were born, they always have access to books, are members of the library and our bedtime routine of course involves a story.

Sharing books with your child is such an important part of their development, children love looking at picture's, hearing words and sounds, turning pages, bonding with you, talking to you about the stories, the list really is endless.

Jacob was given his bookstart pack today very aptly, it has two lovely board books inside and lots of helpful information about reading with your children, it's never too early to start a lifelong love of books with your little ones.

As a child I devoured books, I was a regular at the local library and my head was always stuck in a book, Roald Dahl stories were my favourite and I still have my old dog eared copies to this day.

I don't get to read as often as I would like nowadays but the beauty of books is that you can return to reading at any time, I do have a Kindle but must admit to loving the smell of an old musty book, I know I'm a weirdo !

How did you celebrate world book day ? What did you love reading as a child ?

Webster's Week In Wins 1st - 8th March 2015

I'm back again to share with you what goodies have arrived each week, whether it's a prize, a freebie, vouchers or even a coupon, I like to keep a record of it and perhaps inspire you to try and bring a little extra something through your letter box.

I'm still waiting for a first win for March, I won two prizes in February which is a record low for me but I must find the motivation to carry on as I know luck can change at any moment and you never know what is just around the corner.

While I'm experiencing a slump in prizes I've tried to concentrate my efforts on doing paid surveys and testing products for companies, although it can become tedious filling in endless questions it does guarantee an end result in the form of vouchers.

I've been a part of Consumer Pulse for many years, it's invite only unfortunately so if you ever see them recruiting it's well worth the effort to sign up, I cashed out £20 in Argos vouchers this week and I'm almost up to another cash out as they have been sending extra surveys this month.

I also had three surveys from Pinecone, this made me a nice little sum of £12.

I cashed out on my Ipsos account, I chose an Amazon voucher which I'm using towards Jake's birthday present.

I was quite surprised to get my first Bzz Agent kit in over a year, I used to get loads of campaigns from them so I don't know why they stopped but I'm more than happy with this one, I'm the only person who likes curry in my house so I'm very excited to try this Spice Tailor kit and of course the huge bottle of Kingfisher beer.

Last week I tested some nappies and some baby fruit purees for a research company, I love trying new products for the little ones although I've not a clue what the brand was.

Please keep your fingers crossed for a win for me next week.

This Week At The Webster's - Slow Recovery, Dressing Up, Baby Hair & Making Changes

This week I've mainly been concentrating on recovering from the abscess surgery, it's been a hugely frustrating week of not being able to do much around the house or with the children.

Each day I'm willing my body to get well faster than it really is capable of, I was feeling pretty rubbish and fatigued before it happened which seems to have doubled this week. I have to make an appointment to get some tests done which will hopefully mean finding out what's actually wrong and working out how to get well again.

Daisy dressed up for her first world book day this week, I blogged about it here if you want to have a read.

Jake had his first hair cut this week too, I felt quite emotional about it and blogged about it here.

Being ill for almost two weeks and the chaos it threw us into has made us realise that we have a lot of tough decisions and changes to make, I think it's healthy to look at what's not working in life and change direction, much better than burying our heads in the sand and hoping problems will go away, we are almost ready to put our plans into action.

So that's it really, not much else to share, we are spending today cleaning the house and trying to restore some order before Chris goes back to work and I ease myself back into our weekly routine.

Review - Chuggington Turbo Charged Chugger! DVD Abbey Kids Home Media

Daisy loves trains, she pretends we are all on a train and insists we must fasten our seat belts and sit in a line, she also loves watching Chuggington in the mornings before going to pre-school so we are more than happy to be reviewing the latest Chuggington DVD 'Turbo Charged Chugger!' from Abbey Kids Home Media.

Chuggington is a computer animated children's show which follows the adventures of Wilson, Koko and Brewster who are trainee locomotives and their friends, each episode sees them riding the tracks through the village of Chuggington exploring different locations and taking on challenges and learning new skills.

Turbo Charged Chugger contains six fun episodes as well as some special features, Daisy's favourite episode on the DVD is called 'Explorer Koko', it's a lovely episode where Koko runs into all sorts of mishaps while taking the Mayor of Chuggington and his guests to a tour in Tootington , she is upset to arrive late but all is not lost as the Mayor enjoys the detour so much he makes it a regular feature.

Turbo Charged Chugger also come with a bonus story CD for children to listen to.

The DVD is available to buy from Amazon.co.uk for £7.99

Are your little ones mad about trains ?

Money Mondays - Making The Most of Store Loyalty Cards

$

I don't know about you but my purse is bursting with a huge assortment of store loyalty cards, they were all free and I'm always looking for ways to make an extra point or penny on them.

I usually save all the points up and spend the at Christmas, it's amazing what savings you can make and it's also amazing how many different ways there are to collect extra points.

Promotional Offers

Look out for stores offering extra points promotions, many have in store events as well as sending you direct mailers containing the offers.

Surveys

Join store schemes such as the Orchard by Tesco, you can sample products for free as well as earning extra points for giving your opinions.

Most store receipts offer an incentive for filling in a quick survey about your shopping experience.

Social Media

Follow stores who offer loyalty cards on social media, they often run giveaways or point incentives events on their Facebook or Twitter feeds.

Fuel Up

Many of the supermarkets have petrol stations close by, you can collect extra points for filling up just don't  forget to swipe your loyalty card when paying.

Partner Offers

Many companies link up with large store loyalty schemes to offer incentive points if you purchase through them, we earn extra points on our gas and electric bills.

Join Clubs

Most stores have baby clubs where you can earn extra points for being a part of the club or spending on specific products.

Wombling

This a controversial one, it involves collecting discarded receipts with unclaimed points and putting them on your own card, after all ones mans trash is another mans treasure.

These are just a few ideas to get you started, if you can think of any more leave me a comment, I would love to know how you boost your points.

Webster's Week In Wins 9-14th March 2015

Just a quick blog post this week but I'm happy to report a couple of win for March at last, just some tiddler's but I'm happy to be moving in the right direction again.

I had these two lovely books arrive yesterday, I do remember entering but I can't for the life of me think where I entered, the Cathy Cassidy book isn't on sale until April and I love Alice In Wonderland so am really looking forward to reading them both.

I also had another win yesterday, a Sarah & Duck DVD for Daisy from the CBeebies Facebook page, I remember thinking that Friday the 13th was going to be lucky for me and it was.

Surveys have been a bit thin on the ground this week but I did make another £4 from Pinecone, I've also noticed a lack of good freebie offers but it is usually pretty quiet this time of year.

Have you won anything this week ? leave me a comment I love hearing from you.

Mothers Day

$

At the start of this week I wrote a blog post about why I find Mother's day difficult, it was about my own Mother and our relationship or more rightly lack of, I couldn't decide if posting such a personal thing was the right thing to do on this platform, I asked my brother to read it and he agreed that it perhaps didn't belong on my blog.

Do you know though since I wrote it my whole perspective has shifted, I realised that I may not and never will know the love of a Mother but it hasn't stopped me loving AS a Mother, I stopped thinking about all the things I never had and started thinking about the things I do have like four beautiful, healthy, clever and sometimes crazy children, I thought about all the things I can offer them as a Mother.

I'm replacing the awful memories of my own childhood by thinking of the wonderful memories I have given and will give my children, I'm not by any means saying I've been perfect but I know at the end of my days I can look back and know I always did my best and always apologised where I felt I didn't.

I've decided to concentrate on the relationships I do have with those people who have always been there for me and supported me in being a Mum even when they haven't always agreed with me, I do have people who love me unconditionally even if it's not the people who really should.

I'm cross that it's taken me 37 years to realise that what's most important is the things you do have not the things you don't, I didn't have good parents but that hasn't meant I've not been a good parent, It's made me more determined to do things differently for my own children.

To my children, I promise to always do my best for you, I will always be here to listen and not judge, to offer advice and not be offended if you don't take it, to hold you up when you are feeling weak, to make you you're favourite foods, to love you with no conditions attached, to laugh with you, to have fun with you, to cry with you, and to chat nonsense with you.

Review - Sudocrem Care & Protect Nappy Rash Ointment

$

Luckily nappy rash isn't something Jake suffers from all the time but when he is teething I've noticed that he can be prone to it, sometimes it will flare up if I've introduced a new food to his diet too.

I always have my trusty huge tub of Sudocrem on hand but recently I've been using the more convenient sized Sudocrem Care & Protect nappy rash ointment and I'm really pleased with the results.

Sudocrem Care & Protect is a barrier ointment that has a unique triple action protection formula for skin that's prone to nappy rash, it's also hypoallergenic and contains vitamin E and vitamin B5 which helps to protect the skin and keep it in a healthy condition.

I know from experience that Jake can become quite grumpy when he is suffering with nappy rash, as well as regular nappy changes I have been applying the ointment at each change as it creates a protective barrier which seals in his skin's natural moisture but also protects him from the damp and rubbing that is causing the rash.

I also like that the ointment absorbs really easily I'm not a huge fan on oily greasy formulas, the smell is pleasant too.

The tube also features a handy flip-top cap which is designed for one handed use, I've found this very useful as Jake's at the age where one of my hands is taken up trying to keep him still while I attempt to put his nappy back on.

I think Sudocrem Care & Protect is a must have for changing bags and at home use, I highly recommend it as a top baby care essential buy, it's also just won product of the year award 2015 in the category for best nappy cream.

Have you used it ? what do you think ? leave me a comment and let me know.

Jacob At 10 Months Old

$

I'm a little bit late with Jakes update this month, the time seems to come round so quickly, I've been meaning to write this post all week.

Sleeping

The last couple of weeks Jake has been waking up around 5am ready to start his day, I've tried to settle him back to sleep but have unsuccessful, I've got a couple of ideas which I'm going to start trying but I think I've narrowed the problem down to two things, he's either teething or hungry.

Jake still isn't a great daytime napper but I am firm with him and I make sure he gets at least one decent nap a day.

Feeding

This month I've been introducing a lot of new finger foods into Jakes diet which he is really enjoying, I've noticed that he has been bringing a lot of his morning milk back up so I'm thinking about reducing the amount to see if that helps.

Jake enjoys his food so I don't really have any concerns.

Development

This month saw Jake learning how to pull himself up using furniture, he loves being able to reach previously unreachable items, usually things he's not allowed to have like the remote controls.

He can now crawl at speed and loves exploring other areas of the house.

I've noticed just in the last few days how much the way he interacts with us has changed, he's talking at us a lot more, reaching out his hand and saying 'Ta' when he want's something and shouting at us to get our attention. He's playing with toys and trying to join in with what Daisy is doing.

Jake still only has one tooth and the dribble is back with a vengeance so hopefully another one will pop through soon.

I've really noticed Jakes little personality coming through, he's getting a lot more affectionate and flashes you a cheeky grin if he's doing something he shouldn't be.

I will be back next month with his 11 month update.

Review & Giveaway - Bimuno Immunaid Chewable Pastilles

Regular readers will know that I've been having a run of bad health since December, with my immune system at an all time low I've been taking my usual multi-vitamins and supplements and I've also started taking Bimuno Immunaid.

Bimuno Immunaid are specially developed to keep your immune system fit and healthy, they contain vitamin C which helps the normal function of your immune system as well as Galacto-oligosaccharides (B-GOS) which is a second generation prebiotic which helps encourage and sustain a healthy level of your gut's good bacteria (bifidobacteria).

I was quite surprised to learn that 60% of your immune system is based in your gut, so it's very important to look after your digestive health something which I will admit I've been neglecting to do, I'm now taking two of the soft chewable pastilles together after my breakfast every day.

A recent study at the university of Oxford has found that the prebiotic (B-GOS) which is found in Bimuno can help with stress related disorders like anxiety, if you are interested you can read the study here.

I've been taking Bimuno for just over 2 weeks and published scientific studies have shown that you can expect a significant increase in the good bacteria within just 7 days so I'm well on my way to improving my digestive health.

You can read more about Bimuno prebiotics here , you can find lots of information about digestive health and also learn more about the range of products available from Bimuno.

Bimuno are also giving you a chance to win a £500 Trail Finders giftcard , you can enter by clicking here .

I also have 2 boxes of Bimuno Immunaid to giveaway to 2 of my lovely readers, to enter complete the tasks on the gleam widget below.

I've had a couple of lovely prizes arrive this week, both things I have already mentioned winning in previous posts.

No new wins to report this week but I'm ever hopeful, I'm going to be stepping up completing surveys this coming week and I'm also starting to look for more freebie opportunity's, when prizes are thin on the ground these things really help to keep me motivated.

I received my #voiceofmums gift from Cussons Mum & Me on Twitter, I love their products, they all smell so nice, the Comfort Snuffles definitely arrived at the right time with both the little ones having colds.

Daisy was delighted when her Sarah & Duck DVD from the Cbeebies Facebook competition arrived.

It's been a good week for Daisy as she also received this My Little Pony squishy pop, she loves getting post with her name on it. It came from UKMums.tv, they regularly run competitions and giveaways.

That's all for this week, if you've had anything nice in the post this week I would love to hear about them.

Change Of Season, Change Of Mood

$

This week in the North West we have been lucky enough to have had some really lovely Spring weather, this has meant the shedding of winter coats in favour of cardigans on the school run and afternoons spent playing in the garden.

I don't know about you but my mood is always lifted this time of year, the brighter days, fresh Spring air and warm sunshine make me feel so much better, both physically and mentally.

I feel almost like I'm coming out of hibernation, shedding of the dark cold mood of Winter and stepping into a fresher frame of mind where the day's are more productive.

The children are obviously enjoying this change of season too, Jake had his first trip to the park and Daisy helped me to wash her garden toys so she can enjoy them in the coming months.

Each afternoon after lunch we have played in the garden, Jake is quite happy to sit in his walker, when it's a little warmer and the grass is a little shorter I will spread a huge blanket out and allow him a little more freedom.

I only wish there was a way to bottle the feelings that Spring days bring, but until there is I'm going to enjoy and make the most the of it.

Do you feel better as the season changes ? or do you feel this way all year round I certainly wish I did !

I Took Some Time

About a month ago I decided that I wanted a total break from blogging, I changed my settings to private, turned down a couple of opportunities and switched off.

I wasn't sure if I would ever blog again, but something at the back of mind was niggling away at me, reminding me how much I love writing, how I've put almost two years into keeping a record of our family life something I wish I had done when my teenagers were little.

The past 18 months haven't been the best for us, both health wise and financially, it's hard for that not to come across in my blog but I started to feel uncomfortable sharing those facts, at the same time I didn't want to paint a perfect picture and only share the lovely bits.

I've missed blogging and I know that a career in writing and freelance is definitely something I want to pursue when the little ones are in school full time, so I'm going to persevere, even if that means I take little breaks every now and again.

Thanks for sticking with me, I will hopefully be back soon with some new posts to share with you.
